Crystal Magic

I bought my first crystals two years ago. I remember the day pretty well, mainly because it was a point in my life where I was just beginning to head down the path that brought me to where I am today! It was a hot morning in July, and I was in need of something, but I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. I walked into an eco-friendly local shop & saw they had crystals for sale. I had seen them before, but had never paid much attention. That day, something was different, and I went over, picked out three crystals, and went on with my day. Those three crystals have traveled with me (most) everywhere I go, and I love the comfort they bring me. Now, I hope to send the wonderful energy of crystals to others.

Just last week, I opened a Etsy to start selling some wire wrapped crystal necklaces. Originally, I had started making the necklaces my senior year of high school, but time slipped away from me and I never got around to it. When I came across my old wire wrapping supplies I realized I could make that dream finally happen. So, an Etsy was born!

My crystal collection has grown a lot in the past two years, and all the facts for each crystal can be a lot to remember. Even the names themselves are difficult sometimes! Below, you’ll find photos of my crystals & some quick information on the ones that I’m most familiar with and/or most drawn to.

Essential Oils & Where to Find Them

Peppermint cools my low-back and relieves my tight muscles; Wild Orange fills my nose and takes over, a bolt of energy runs through me; Lavender drips from my fingertips onto my temples and my mind simmers down.

Essential oils are magical, and have countless benefits and uses, some of which I will be highlighting below. All are my personal opinions & come from my own experiences with the oils.

Some of my essential oils are purchased online & 100% therapeutic grade (definition of that to come). Others are the ones you’ll see at Whole Foods or your local health store. I love all mine the same, but the therapeutic grade are more effective & stronger than the ones you’ll find on the shelf.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are used in our daily lives more than we realize. They are used to add some flavor foods, to add mint to toothpaste or mouthwash. They can be found in perfumes and skin care products. Some essential oils are synthetic, such as those found in most foods and cosmetics, and these oils don’t benefit your body as therapeutic grade oils do.

The oils are distilled from plants which have never made contact with pesticides or chemicals. There are many uses for the oils, mainly:

  • Topical Use
    • Apply directly to your skin {Unless you’re applying to babies or children, dilute with water or a less intense oil}
  • Aromatic Use
    • Smelling, of course! Through your nose, the tiny molecules end up in your blood stream. You can drop some oil onto your hands and inhale, or use a diffuser to fill the entire room. Personally, I use a spray in my yoga classes so I can fill the entire room with the smell & as long as the student’s are up for it, some will land on them, so they’ll have some direct contact with the oil as well.

  • Internal Use
    • This one I have yet to try! There are numerous ways to ingest essential oils, so long as you read the directions that come on the sides of most bottles, or search online and find a credible source, the oils are perfectly safe to consume. Although, not ALL oils are okay to ingest, so do some research beforehand!

My Go-To Mixtures

6 drops Lavender + 4 drops Peppermint: Soothing, cooling, calming

I use this mix as a spray in my yoga classes or to soak cool towels in to give to yogis after a sweaty summer class.

Sandalwood + Ginger + Clove: Opens up your Root Chakra; enhances your sense of belonging and groundedness

A roll-on form of this mix was gifted to me be my Mimi & I use it most mornings now!

4 drops Ylang Ylang + 6 drops Vanilla: Grounding, opens up your Root Chakra; Vanilla works to balance the strong scent of the Ylang Ylang oil

I used this mix as a spray before one of my classes that was focused on the Root Chakra & grounding.

**I mix all the oils with about 4-5 oz. of water and use only 2-6 drops of each oil in the mix.

Other Mixtures to Try

  • For stress: 4 drops Lavender, 2 drops Lemon
  • Wake-up call: 4 drops Peppermint + 2 drops Lemon
  • For concentration: 4 drops Lemon + 2 drops Peppermint
  • A winter pick-me-up: 8 drops Orange + 2 drops Ylang Ylang
  • For cramp relief: 5 drops Peppermint + 3 drops Lavender
  • For allergies: 2 drops Peppermint + 2 drops Lavender + 2 drops Lemon

These mixtures work best when put in a diffuser, used a spray, or applied topically after being mixed with 4-5 oz. of water.
